Tai Kwun|Tai Kwun Contemporary presents Stay Connected: Supplying the Globe, the second chapter of Stay Connected: Art and China Since 2008

Description

Presenting over 40 contemporary artists from China and beyond whose worl‹s explore legacies of rapid economic transformations in our daily life and map the transnational movement of goods, material, and cultures

Tai Kwun Contemporary is pleased to announce Stay Connected: Supplying the Globe (28 Feb to 31 May 202ó), on view across three floors of the JC Contemporary and F Hall galleries. Curated by Dr Pi Li and Ying Kwol‹, the second chapter of the panoramic exhibition Stay Connected: Art and China Since 2008 shifts our attention from the digital world to the material one. Anchored in the new realities created by China's unprecedented economic growth in the last four decades, artists re-examine the country's role as the world's centre for the production and logistics that sustain modem life. They give insight into the individual stories, family histories, and lesser-seen places impacted by globalisation and economic transformation.

Stay Connected: Supplying the Globe surveys contemporary artists working across China and internationally in a variety of nontraditional media — from installations to performance and participatory projects. More than 70 artworl‹s will be presented in four thematic sections that highlight subjects including humans’ ecological footprint, how labour has been reconfigured, the infrastructure of participation, and the global realignments brought by trade and migration. These sections guide audiences to reflect on how we can overcome boundaries and divisions among dispersed people in order to “stay connected“ in the era of rapid economic transformation.

Among more than 40 artists and groups included in the show are Lap-See Lam, Musquiqui Chihying, Zhang Ruyi, Zheng Yuan, the collective Foreign Investment, and more. Tai Kwun Contemporary also presents commissioned artworks by Mark Chung, Ocean Leung, and Li Yifan.

Throughout the exhibition period, Tai Kwun will host a series of cross-disciplinary activities including curatorial talks, family and teachers' programmes, and the launch of a companion publication produced in collaboration with Asia Art Archive (Hong Kong).

Stay Connected: Art and China Since 2008 is made possible with core funding provided by The Hong Kong Jockey Clu b throug h its Charities Trust as one of Tai Kwun's arts and heritage programmes. The Lead Patron is Hawk HE — Octone Foundation. Beginning with Stay Connected: Navigating the Cloud (2ó Sep 2025 to 4 Jan 202ó) and continuing in Stay Connected: Supplying the Globe (28 Feb to 31 May 202ó), the two chapters are framed through the lenses of digital technology and the man ufacturing supply chain, respectively, to portray the diversity of current artístic practices.
